The first year of homeschooling for us was wonderfully overwhelming. We had all the time to do whatever it is we thought up. The school year was endless. The days had no time, rhyme or reason. Everything we wanted and dreamed was our reality and at our discretion. Our imaginations soared. We spent hours playing video games, catching up on the sleep we loved so much. We spent rainy days cuddling -just the way we always dreamed we could. We did all the things. We saw all the people. But soon enough all those small things became big things and we realized that having a productive life doing what you always wished for was simply exhausting. There just weren't enough hours in the day or week for that matter to say "yes" to everything. And just as we had begun our journey to freedom- we found ourselves enslaved by it. And so, we began our year of "no". No thank you. Not today. Maybe next time. And on we went declining all the things and refusing to see all the people. And what we learned was that the most important thing we did have was each other. And the most important lesson we needed to learn was how to care for ourselves. And none of the fun things and none of the wonderful people (that we thought we loved so much) really mattered. So now we smile each September when the buzz begins for back-to-schoolers and not-back-to-schoolers because we will be there waiting. Waiting to save the people overwhelmed by their freedom who need to learn to say no. We will be waiting and ready to welcome them to our safety net of "no". And relax and watch as the world runs circles around themselves trying to find freedom in their hopes and dreams not realizing - it's all right there in front of them waiting to say "no". #teachlove #takeonlywhatyouneed

Storytellers Forum
Welcome to my storytellers forum!
Before you read, please remember that writing is a sacred practice. In order to write, you first have to be willing to open up yourself up to an audience. This means there is a great level of vulnerability in the process. The writing process is not linear. Thoughts and feelings manifest themselves all at once. This forum is space for us all to try to place it in a logical order. This can be difficult and take many edits and adjustments within a conversation. Know that my work is one from the heart and not from an assumed professional expertise. My writing is based on my personal goals to share the voices that are usually not heard. Much of what I write can be seen as radical and aggressive by today's cultural standards. My mission with #teachlove is to share my words unfiltered, and often unedited, to help start conversations that will advocate for self-care and accepting differences to open up avenues in our communities so that everyone's story can be told.
